ABOUT US
For over 20 years the "Java Expressions" series of open mic events has provided a platform for people of all ages where they are free to give us their passion and their pain, happiness and sorrow, to fellowship with artists and art lovers, and often find healing in the process. Here, multi-generational bonds have been formed between folks who normally might not have spoken, many of which have led to musical and poetic collaborations that have stood the test of time. Although our performers are mostly poets & singer/songwriters, we have had the good fortune to have artists share with us through dance, storytelling, acting, comedy, and the visual arts, sometimes offering both genre and media-spanning presentations. We have also been blessed by two decades of support from Kiki Manis and her family. Kiki is an art lover with a vision of maintaining a smooth blend of coffee culture and the arts. The Coffee Scene, owned and operated by the Manis family, has kept the doors open and the coffee hot throughout the years, ensuring that folks have a cozy environment and friendly, family-oriented staff to relax their worries away.
HOUSE RULES:
1) Must be 18+ or accompanied by a responsible adult.
2) All who wish to perform must sign up at the start of the event. Please print neatly...we TRY not to mess up names!
3) NO PROFANITY! All Java Expressions events are all-ages events. You can cover the subject matter that speaks to you, just choose your words wisely. BE WORDSMITHS!
4) Must make a purchase from The Coffee Scene. They've allowed us to be here for 20 years without charging a cover so take care of the business that takes care of us.
5) Place all electronic devices on silent or vibrate, or ensure that your headphones are plugged in.
6) Keep side conversations to "the whisper mode". If you have a phone call that you must take, please take it downstairs and comeback when you're finished.
7) No video or audio recording without the artist's EXPRESS PERMISSION.
