Hello folks! I know you all won't read this until late January but I am writing this at "oh-dark-thirty" New Year's Eve morning and the whole "New Year's" excitement seems to on a time-delay for me. I'm sure that it will probably hit me getting closer to tonight, but right now all I can think about is the first couple months of artists that we have coming into the mix. Since we ended 2017 with a particularly eclectic combination, it seems only fitting to roll in 2018 in much the same manner. So here are our January features and, as usual, in no particular order...

To start off, we're going to saying hello to a couple old friends of both the open mic & the live stream that we've not seen in some time, the band Thousand Ways. Larry Sykes, Will Bundy, and John Sparks pool together their creative talent to fuel an alt. folk/blues blend. Based out of the Raleigh-area, in Fuquay-Varina, these gentlemen will rock up and down the sandhills region, from bars to coffee shops, bringing you a solid mix of soulful originals and covers you won't soon forget. Their band's page on Facebook lists their influence as including "The Allman Brothers, Phish, Neil Young, Langhorne Slim, Wilco, and many, many others." You can find out more about them by clicking HERE to visit their Facebook page (http://Facebook.com/LarrySykesMusic) or click HERE to go to the band's website, http://www.ThousandWaysMusic.com.

Then we have a "two-for" of talent with the comedy & poetry of Little Niecie. Little Niecie has been writing since the age of 12 but her entrance into the field of comedy is relatively recent. What started as hanging out in a waiting room turned into a captivated audience that became the latest in a long list of folks to suggest that she give stand up a try. So she did! Between these two oft different forms of expression Niecie found an outlet through which to channel both the pains of the past and challenges of today. As a widow and single mom, Niecie is often busy yet hopes that by spending time sharing her story with others she not only continue her own healing process, but be able to help some of those who are struggling through similar trials in life. Little Niecie does not have any social media contacts dedicated to her poetic & comedic expressions, however you can check out her Facebook page "Niecie's Niceties" where she highlights her physical artistic endeavors. Last but not least, we introduce the musical musings of Yaro! Yaro is a singer/songwriter from Russia who is attending school in the US. Back home this pianist & singer/songwriter kept himself artistically occupied performing with multiple bands and m
usic projects at a variety of venues. Bringing an international flair that was once a staple of Java Expressions, much of Yaro's performance will be in Russian. I can't tell how excited I am for this. So many people in the Fayetteville area are multilingual and yet remain surprised when they are told by Neil, Radar, Dick, myself or any of the other hosts & longtime regulars how we've had people share poetry in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and I'm pretty sure that I remember at least one performance having been done in German. As for Yaro, you can keep up with endeavors both here and abroad by following him on Facebook at http://Facebook.com/YAROprojects or you can click HERE to get to his page.
So this is Java Expressions kicking off a new year of live streaming that you do not want to miss. Don't forget, we still have our regular open mic running from 7-8pm before the broadcast and then 9:30-11pm after the livestream has concluded. We also still have our Monday & Tuesday events rolling strong. Below you will find a roll up of our features for February - May 2018.
We are booking for June and beyond.
If you are a performer of ORIGINAL and radio-ready poetry or music, that is comfortable doing a 25 minute set in a live setting, feel free to contact us about featuring on our broadcast. Before you do, we ask that you please read our "FYI's for JE: LIVE Performers" which can be found on Facebook by clicking HERE or on this website by clicking HERE. Once you've done that, message us the Java Expressions: LIVE Facebook page with the appropriate information.
