Hey there artists and art lovers! We're only a week away from our next edition of Java Expressions: LIVE. If you haven't checked it out yet, "JE: LIVE" is a monthly, invitational feature segment of our weekly Java Expressions open mic event. On the 3rd Sunday of each month we bring you a 90 minute presentation of local poets & musicians performing ALL ORIGINAL material and broadcast LIVE, ONLINE via UStream.
Each performer is given a 25-minute set to showcase their art and let people know about upcoming shows or projects. For nearly 4 years now we have been able to give area performers a broader platform that allows them to reach an audience which they may not have had access to before. In many cases our singer/songwriters & spoken word artists have family and friends in distant locations that can finally enjoy the fruits of these artists' labors. We have a worldwide audience that we invite you to be apart of, regardless whether you watch online or in person.

Our first guest on the September livestream is singer/songwriter MJ Willis. I first met MJ while we were both performing at an open mic that was part of a collaborative effort between Fayetteville Fashion Week & the annual Southeastern Regional North Carolina (SERNC) Poetry Festival. MJ began songwriting while learning piano at the age of 9. While in college she picked up guitar and learning a new chord inspired her to go further musically. MJ enjoys a diverse and growing catalog of music, often writing about intimate life experiences such as cancer, faith, childbirth, adoption, faith, love, deployments, and much more. As an Army spouse and mother of 5 children, MJ has found joy not only in sharing her own music and passions but also in teaching others to do the same. Ushering the poetic notion is one of Fayetteville, NC's dynamic young voices, the spoken word artist known as "D-Minor". I don't get to see this awesome poet/performer as much as I used to but it's a treat everytime that she's in the house. Like so many of our area's creative spirits, D-Minor's endeavors include a multitude of artistic mediums. This 14 year old is also a pianist, actor, vocalist, and sketch artist among other things. She stands as a proud civil rights activist and has been seen sharing her spoken word at events such as Art Meets Life, VerseUs, Java Expressions, and Java Expressions: Acoustically Speaking. She's still in the process of building her social media presence but if you haven't seen or heard her before, here's your chance at JE: LIVE!

Wrapping up our list of features for the month is singer/songwriter Jacob Eubanks. The first time that I met Jacob he was at The Coffee Scene for Java Jams and performing one of the best Johnny Cash covers that I'd ever heard. Not long afterwards, I started hearing original material from him and became an instant fan. Jacob is one-half of the duo "Beat Your Boots" along with his friend and fellow paratrooper, Chris Roberts. With a repertoire that covers classic country, modern rock, bluegrass, and their own original material, there isn't a single venue that these gentlemen won't rock. Collectively and individually, this duo has had a number of accomplishments including winner of the Hushe Hardware Singer/Songwriter competition, winner of the Stars and Guitars: Hero for a Night competition and having opened for Kip Moore, Brett Eldridge, Rodney Adkins, Kelsie Ballerini, Cassadee Pope, Dan and Shay. Make sure that you are in the house or watching online to catch Jacob in one of his solo performances as part of our September line up for JE: LIVE. You can follow the group and find out about their gigs & upcoming projects by checking out their Facebook page.
