The Dissonance of Feeling

I want to hold you in my arms again
I’ve learned to live without, still I want your heartbeat next to mine
I want our souls to intertwine again
merging into one as our love
replaces the dark of night with the warmth of comfort
Comfort in a loved one’s voice
The feeling of their helping hand
Knowing they will always be there for you
New beginnings, new hope
A new chance to accept
An opportunity you never would have before
Before…
The storm, that is, of emotional and mental
turmoil that came after everything faded,
especially the light in your eyes
Which I will miss more than words could say
A somber farewell to your familiar face
And a rapidly pulsing heart drumming out a hello
To this unfamiliar place
Places that continue to haunt my memory
An open void in an open space…spaces
alone. But I’m not dependent on the comfort of sounds.
Unless that sound is you.
